Apple Aperture and New Cameras…

As nice as Apple’s Aperture 2 is… whenever there are new camera models coming out, it takes quite some time until Apple supports the specific image format.

When Nikon brought the D3, I had to wait for an Apple OS X update to support Nikon’s NEF format for the D3. In the meantime, there was Nikon’s Capture NX.

Now, I have the same problem with Canon’s G10 camera. Aperture does not yet support it’s raw format. So, the only way to work with Canon G10 raw images is to use Canon’s Digital Photo Professional. Come on Apple!

By the way, the G10 is a great little cam supporting both manual and automatic exposure and custom white balance setting. Maximum image size is 4416×3312 pixels. It has a nice LCD screen and a hot shoe for external flashes (or PocketWizard…). Shutter lag isn’t a problem, but it takes about a second until the cam is ready to shoot after turning it on. The G10 is solidly built, quite heavy, but still fits in a pocket. It’s a very nice camera for those situations where you don’t want to attract to much attention…
