Slideshows are getting more and more popular for the presentation of photojournalistic work. The Washington Post started early to present photojournalistic essays on the web as slideshows.
See the work of the Online Journalism Award winners here, for example ‘Bearing Witness‘ by Reuters. The Eddie Adams workshop is famous and has an impressive teaching faculty.
The application I use is ‘Soundslides Pro‘. It has a lot of features such as transitions, headlines, credits and lower thirds. Export options include emailing, burning on a CD, embedding in blogs, and iWeb, Dreamweaver and many more. There is also a video plug-in.

For audio recording, I use an m-audio Microtrack II recorder. It has an analog input limiter, is battery operated, and stores wav or mp3 sound files to the same CompactFlash cards I use in my digital camera. And you can use a 48V powered external microphone. MediaStorm has blogged about a decent – and not cheap – gear list for multimedia productions.
