Unfortunately, Canon decided to drop the interval capture function when they went from the G9 to the G10 PowerShot. I’ve found an intervalometer for the Canon G10 camera on eBay. It’s called Yongnuo MC-36b timer remote controller. Besides to certain Canon cameras, it also fits Pentax and Samsung cams.
Ordered it one week ago on a Saturday from a shop in Hong Kong, the seller shipped it same day -- one week later it arrived here. Functions as described. About $33 bucks. No shipping cost. That’s China.
The intervalometer connects to the G10 via 2.5mm stereo jack. It also serves as a cable remote release, for example for bulb captures or macro shots. In case you wonder: yes, you can also connect PocketWizard to the 2.5mm jack for remote triggering the G10.
Together with the G10 cam it’s a great little gadget: it’s small, lightweight, and for time lapse photography it’s easier to carry a smaller camera like the Canon G10 than a large DSLR such as my Nikon D3. Especially for hiking in the mountains. One more plus: there are no dust spots on the Canon G10 sensor – it’s a pain when you discover spots on 720 time lapse captures shot with a DSLR…
Hello,
Hey! Nice sky TimeLapse !
I just received the same intervalometer (for my G10) today. Impatient to try it tomorrow. Do you have some recommandation, some settings for a nice timelapse ? I think about manual focus or something, priority mode, shut down screen . Also what are you using to create your video with jpg files… I heard about Quicktime pro ?
Thanks !
Have a look at my earlier post about creating time lapse movies.
I didn’t see this one.
Thanks !
can this be used with a G9? i checked this one out on ebay but the seller didnt list G9 just G10. i wonder if you could try it with G9. interested in buying but if it doesnt work then its wasted. G9 got the 2.5mm jack like on G10, but i just want to set a longer interval for time lapse photography. thanx!
I don’t own a G9, so I don’t know if it works. Ask the seller on ebay, he’s very responsive.
I assume you know that the G9 has an integrated interval function…?
of that function i am aware. the problem is the integrated function only allows me to take pictures with 1 and 2 second intervals. and since ‘time-lapse’ mode is crammed into video mode, i can only use 640×480 resolution for the pictures. quite below par when i’m thinking about HD. haha. with intervalometers i can control both the quality and the quantity.
ah ok, good to know! Thanks.
Let us know if you find out about using the intervalometer with the G9.
thank you for posting this… just received my intervalometer from that ebay seller on your recommendation. I used timelapse a lot on my departed g9 and have missed it on my g10. looking forward to playing around with this over the next few days.

Hi, I just bought the YongnuoTC-80 for my G9 but the jack (2.5mm) doesn’t fit in the G9′s output jack (3.5mm), so I bought an adapter.
Not sure how it works – what setting do I put it on? Thanks.
@Chris: I do not have any experience with this timer (TC-80). Do you plan to do time lapse interval photos? As far as I know, the Canon G9 has an integrated timer for serial photos. So you might not need an external timer.
For a more detailed time lapse tutorial, there is an earlier post about creating time lapse movies on this blog.
