Offside - Lower League Football

Offside – Lower League Football

This photo is from my ongoing series Offside. I try to capture the rough charme of lower league football. The series is not only about the players but also about the atmosphere in the smaller stadiums and about spectators. As I said earlier, I mostly use film for this series. Some of the lower league [...]

Dance the Football Ballet

Dance the Football Ballet

And here’s another sport photo from the category of slightly comical scenes. As always in sports photography, it’s good to have the faces of the athletes visible and capture the ball as well – but it also helps to freeze extreme moves.

This Guy Really Has Balls

This Guy Really Has Balls

Yes indeed, lower league football has some charme. Although it’s sometimes a bit rough and not as glorious as the UEFA Champions League… Below is an older capture which I like because of it’s slightly comic pose and the pouring rain. Besides of the regular sports photos I am working on my series about lower [...]

At the Seaside

At the Seaside

From the series “At the Seaside” with seascapes. Find it via my portfolio. Taken with a Hasselblad (very old, same age as me) and Planar f2.8/80mm, on Kodak T-Max 100 film developed in Kodak D-76.

Website Update

I have updated my website portfolio. XXL images!! Have a look… There are new images in the existing portfolios, and I have a whole new portfolio with new photographs. More about that later.

Surfing

Surfing

Some more surfing… Tenerife. What always amazes me about the Nikon D3 is the dynamic range in the highlights. Kind of a “reserve” hat behaves almost like real film which prevents blowing out. Here it left me room to play with post-processing – ironically to let the highligths blow out…

Helmut Newton: Autobiography

Helmut Newton’s Autobiography tells the fascinating story of one of the most influential fashion photographers. I enjoyed to read about his youth in Berlin – he was always looking for girls and had a lot of fun… Later he and his family had to flee from Nazi Germany. He took a ship to Singapore where [...]

A Week’s Links

Polaroid Instant Films will be produced again in 2010. The Impossible Project. Polaroid PoGo pocket printer. Zero ink paper (ZINK). Pity it’s not compatible with Apple’s iPhone, as Apple does not enable Bluetooth connections other than headsets. Looks nice and petite anyway. New Nikon D3S. Has 12 MP, sensor cleaning, 720p movie and stunning 102’400 [...]

Adobe Lightroom

So far I’ve used Apple Aperture for archival of my photos because I like the interface and its mode of organizing the library. However, I find it has become slower and slower. Also, there seems to be a bug preventing me from using metadata templates. There are no global post-processing presets. In addition, the RAW [...]

Sleeping Dreams

Sleeping Dreams

Sleeping dreams… I was looking for old forgotten surfboards at the lake. When I drove home, I found these. A woman walking by said, “Oh, are you taking a photo of these beauties?”. Made with a Graflex Crown Graphic 4×5″ camera on expired Polaroid 79 film. Lens was an Optar f4.7/135 mm. Scanned from positive.

A Week’s Links

Another week’s links: Joni Sternbach: Surfers. Stunning 8×10″ tintype photographs. Dan Winters: Periodical Photographs (published by Aperture). A truely timeless book designed by Scott Dadich with so many careful details to discover. Irving Penn (1917-2009) was a student of Alexey Brodovitch, the legendary Art Director of Harper’s Bazaar where he initially worked as an illustrator. [...]
